On August 7th, Trump announced that he was planning on banning TikTok in the US. Recently, China has been blamed for stealing personal information of teenagers and children in this app, which is why US officials are planning on banning TikTok in order to protect these young people. Also, rumors say that TikTok has also been used to spy on the US government workers, which is dangerous for the privacy of the US government. Trump said this ban will happen in 45 days, which caused a lot of young people who use TikTok a lot to panic, since some people made a living off of this app.
What is TikTok? TikTok is a music app and a social-media platform that was formerly known as Musical.ly, and it is created by a Chinese company. This app has become one of the most popular apps in the world with over 2 billion downloads worldwide. However, with these recent issues related to privacy and safety of young people, countries like the US or even South Korea are starting to monitor this app in order to prevent the leak of private information, which could be used by China for advertisement or government-related actions.

2020년 8월 7일, 미국 트럼프 대통령은 미국에서 틱톡 사용을 금지시킬 계획이라고 발표했습니다. 최근 틱톡앱은 중국정부가 미국 아이들과 십대들의 개인정보를 빼내는 게 이용되고 있다고 비판을 받아왔습니다. 미국 정부는 미국의 어린 젊은이들을 보호하고자 틱톡을 금지할 계획이라고 말하고 있습니다. 소문이기는 하지만, 틱톡을 통해 미국 정부에서 일하는 공무원들의 정보도 스파이(염탐) 당하고 있다는 이야기도 들립니다. 트럼프 대통령은 45일내 이 틱톡 사용 금지를 실행한다고 발표했고, 이에 틱톡을 사용해 온 미국의 많은 젊은이들이 패틱상태에 빠져 있다고 합니다.
틱톡은 어떤 앱이길래 틱톡 사용 금지가 이렇게 큰 국제/사회 문제가 되는 걸까요? 티톡은 음악앱/소셜미디어 플랫폼으로 중국회사에 의해서 개발된 앱입니다. 틱톡은 현재 20억번 이상 다운로드 될 정도로 세계적으로 가장 인기가 많은 앱이기도 합니다. 하지만 틱톡이 젊은이들의 개인정보를 중국정부에 넘기고 있다는 소문에 미국 정부 뿐 아니라 대한민국 정부도 틱톡앱이 현재 젊은이 들 사이에 얼마나 사용되고 있는지 또는 틱톡앱에 의한 정보 유출이 있는지 등을 조사를 시작한 상태입니다.
