In August, 2021, the world witnessed the Taliban gaining the control of Afghanistan. The incident caused many Afghan people to flee from their homes and to become refugees. UN, after the incident, reported that 80% of Afghan refugees among 500,000 refugees are women and children. (UN Refugee Agency Spokesperson, Shabia Mantoo reported on August. 14, 2021)

The total number of refugees needing immediate care and support must be much more than the above data, and we are already hearing many worrisome news on the condition of Afghan female refugees and the other women left behind in Afghanistan.
The Afghan female refugees are experiencing countless sexual assaults or unwanted pregnancy due to their lack of access to sexual and reproductive health services. The condition of women who remain in Afghanistan is even worse. As the Taliban has taken over the country, there are reports of increased rates of sexual violence and forced marriage. It is said that one of the first things the Taliban did was the listing up of girls who were over twelve years old as the list of potential brides for the Taliban soldiers.
Whether it was the right decision for the U.S. to suddenly leave Afghanistan is a matter of controversy, but one thing urgent and clear is that the world should not let the Taliban commit sexual crimes to women. The world should not just sit around and see that the Taliban forces only twelve- or thirteen-year-old girls to be married to Taliban soldiers.
아프칸 여성 난민과 남겨진 여인들에 대한 보고서
지난 8월, 세계는 탈레반 정권이 아프간을 다시 차지하는 것을 지켜보고 말았습니다. 이 사건은 수많은 아프간 사람들이 자기들의 고향과 집을 버리고 떠나 난민이 되게 했습니다. UN는 당시 50만명의 난민이 발생해고 이 중 80퍼센트가 여성과 아이들이라고 발표했습니다(UN난민국 대변인 발표 2021년 8월 14일)
실제 총 난민의 숫자는 발표된 50만명보다 훨씬 더 많을 것으로 예상되고 있습니다. 하지만 벌써 이 난민들과 아프간에 남겨진 여성들에게 벌어지는 일들은 매우 걱정스러운 상태입니다.

아프간 여성 난민들과 남겨진 여성들은 이미 셀 수 없이 많은 성적 공격과 고통을 겪고 있고, 피임도구의 부재로 원치 않는 임신을 하고 있습니다. 무엇보다 우려되는 것은 최근 탈레반 군인들이 아프간 전 지역을 다니며 12세 이상의 여자아이들까지 포함된 리스트를 만들어 탈레반 군인들의 신부 후보 리스트를 만들고 있다는 사실입니다.
미국이 아프간에서 빠른 철수를 했어야 하는 가는 의견이 다를 수도 있습니다. 하지만 한가지 확실한 건 세계가 더 이상 가만히 앉아서 탈레반 정권이 이제 겨우 12살, 13살이 된 여자아이들을 탈레반 군사들의 신부로 억지 결혼을 시키는 것을 보고 있어서는 안된다는 것입니다.
